A new star has emerged, and he is changing the game with his awe-inspiring beauty looks. Celebrity makeup artist Scott Osbourne is well known for infusing his unique and distinctive touch into every cutting edge look he creates. As a result, he has become the go-to makeup artist for many of our favorite It girls, including Keke Palmer, Saweetie, and Coi LeRay.
Scott began honing his craft at an early age, doing his friend’s makeup while he was still in grade school. The Maryland native soon gained a steady flow of clients and eventually went on to work for MAC cosmetics before landing a major gig as the makeup artist for rapper Rico Nasty. Since then, Scott has taken the industry by storm, crafting innovative beauty looks for many of the top names in fashion and entertainment.
Scott spent many of his early days as a makeup artist working backstage beauty for Fashion Week, and it is a creative outlet that he still enjoys to this day. In fact, the beauty maestro is fresh off of a highly coveted stint working behind the scenes as a makeup artist for Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty Vol. 2 fashion show, which is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
“Working with Savage x Fenty was super amazing and so much fun! Everything about it felt exciting, fresh, and new. Priscilla Ono and fellow Global Make-up Artist for Fenty Beauty, Hector Espinal, imagined the looks for the team of artists to execute. The looks were made using all Fenty Beauty products, which I am a major die-hard fan of,” Scott says about his experience working on this iconic fashion show.
“One of my personal faves from that evening was a look from the ‘Garden’ scene I created on Nadia Lee. The lashes were custom-made. The flower petals were placed onto a lash strip to give off that flower-child vibe. Overall it was sultry yet avant-garde, and I love it when I can bring those worlds together.”
As a professional makeup artist, it’s no secret that Scott and many other beauty artists have had to adjust to the new normal of working under the strict conditions that are now enforced on sets due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After all, staying safe and helping to prevent the spread of the corona virus is now a top priority for many artists and glam workers in the beauty and fashion industries.
“Because of COVID, I have been taking way more precautions and have been especially careful and meticulously hygienic,” Scott shares, and he gave us some of his sage tips for how makeup artists can practice protective safety measures while doing makeup at home or on a set.
“I now do a thorough shampoo on my makeup brushes three times a week, along with cleaning them with 99% alcohol and Cinema Secrets Brush Cleaner to sanitize them,” Scott shares. He notes that cross-contamination is a major concern for makeup artists. So, “use a palette to place all your creams and liquids, and work off of that. When using powders, clean your powders with a napkin after use. Keep a container of sanitizer wipers to use so you can wipe your hands while working. Also, when using lipsticks and lip glosses, use a spatula to scrape your lipstick and work off of the spatula,” the beauty expert advises.
In addition to practicing safety in the age of COVID-19, many beauty enthusiasts are also looking for simple ways to prepare their skin for the impending cooler weather so they can showcase fabulous makeup looks without worry. We asked Scott for his expertise on how to seamlessly adjust to the new season.
“When fall rolls around, we tend to get dry and flaky, and it gets colder outside. So here are a few of my top beauty tips for the fall season,” he says. “Use a thick moisturizer; it will help your skin to hold and retain moisture. Use a humidifier at home. It helps boost hydration in the skin. Switch your foundation. The seasons are changing, so your skin tone will begin to change. Condition the lips and keep them supple. Since it’s colder out, the lips are more prone to dry up and get flaky. Use a nonpetroleum for the best result.”
