‘Pizza to the Polls’ Delivered Free Food to Hundreds of Thousands of Voters in Long Lines

As voting lines snaked around city blocks, stretched through neighborhoods, and formed through streets across the country, a volunteer-run nonprofit delivered more than 1.3 million pizzas, burgers, and cookies. , patties, donuts, pretzels and other snacks to people at polling stations with long lines throughout the election cycle.

Pizza to the Polls mission is simple: send sandwiches to crowded polling places. In their 2020 program, they operated in a whopping 48 states and raised more than $ 1.45 million in grassroots donations from people eager to support their fellow Americans at the polls.

With historic turnout in early voting and COVID-19 security measures lengthening wait times, the organization delivered pizzas at more than 3,200 polling places across the country and deployed 262 food trucks in 29 cities across its association with Uber Eats.

Voters, poll workers, children accompanying their parents, or anyone walking past have been able to enjoy treats from partners like Shake Shack, Milk Bar, Voodoo Donut and more.

The show generated a lot of attention and received support from celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato and Tracee Ellis Ross.

“Food can change the mood of people who have been waiting for hours to vote or who have volunteered to ensure the process runs smoothly,” said Pizza to the Polls co-founder Scott Duncombe. “We’ve seen people get really excited about our deliveries, and some have even told us it was the boost they needed to stay online.”

“While no one should wait in line for hours to vote, it has been heartwarming to see so many Americans starving for democracy,” concluded Duncombe.
