Once upon a time, I was in a chair every two weeks touching up my eyelash extensions at my local salon. I was obsessed. The thought of having perfect, long lashes all the time without layering on mascara was just the best feeling in the world to me. Then, COVID-19 hit, and salons shut down for months.
Instead of mourning the loss of my eyelash treatments, I decided to go back to using good old-fashioned mascara. It’s been months of me testing all different types — volumizing, lengthening, and even colorful ones — but nothing really wowed me like those extensions once did. Until now.
While scrolling on TikTok, I came across a video from user @jessica.eid_ who worked with Maybelline New York to help promote its new Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara, and it blew my mind. I thought that if this mascara can make my lashes look anything like hers, my eyelash extension days may be over, for good.
I got my hands on the viral mascara — which, by the way, sold out four times on Ulta Beauty’s website — and immediately went to apply it. The tube is a baby-pink metallic hue, and when you twist it open, you reveal its wand. It’s plastic and extremely flexible. The brand calls this its “flex tower” brush, which has bristles that grip and reach for every lash — even the little baby ones that can be hard to coat.
