Vitamins For Hair Growth

By Choya Randolph

Loving your hair no matter its length is nice and all but there’s nothing wrong with wanting some inches. Of course we can get inches by wearing a wig or getting a protective hairstyle but there’s nothing like getting a silk press and seeing how far your hair has come. Hair growth is a gradual process. It takes time to get your hair down to your back. Though we should let our hair do its thing, there are things we can do to promote hair growth. One way we can do this is by taking vitamins. But there are 13 vitamins. Which ones can actually affect your hair growth? Let’s get into it.

Biotin

If you’ve ever tried to strengthen your natural nails, you probably were told to take biotin. Biotin is a water soluble vitamin that’s a part of the vitamin B and vitamin H family. It can do a lot for our body such as convert our food into energy. It can also boost the health of our hair, nails, and skin.

When it comes to vitamins for hair growth, biotin is at the top of the list. You can buy it in gummy form from your local CVS or Walgreens. If taking pills, even as gummies, is not for you, you can try eating foods that have a good source of biotin. Foods that contain biotin include eggs, fish, nuts, bananas, avocados, and more.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A could also promote your hair growth. Though vitamin A is known for strengthening our eye sight, it also plays a role in growth and development. If you want your hair to grow some inches, you’ll want your body to be in the best shape for reproduction.

Vitamin A also helps our scalp produce an oily substance called sebum. Sebum keeps the hair healthy by aiding in keeping the hair moisturized. When it comes to hair growth, you’ll want your scalp to be in good shape and sebum can help with that. Foods that have a good source of vitamin A include carrots, squash, broccoli, grapefruits, and more.

Vitamin C

A good way to promote hair growth is to protect our hair and scalp. Of course you may be taking care of your hair to avoid damage but there are things that can impact your hair’s health that you may not think about. This could be air pollution or even smoking. This could lead to free radical damage. Free radicals can cause oxidative stress which can affect the proteins that make up our hair. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that can protect our hair and body from free radicals.

Vitamin C also plays a role in producing collagen. Collagen is a protein and our hair is mostly made of a protein called keratin. Collagen’s amino acids can be used to build the protein in our hair and prevent hair follicle damage. Without vitamin C, our body wouldn’t be able to successfully produce collagen. Because vitamin C has a sour taste when taken as a supplement, you may prefer to get your vitamin C intake through your foods. Citrus foods such as oranges are high in vitamin C. Green and red peppers, broccoli, and brussel sprouts also have a good source of vitamin C.

Though we all want hair down to our booty, hair growth is a process that takes time. We have to be patient with our hair. If you find yourself getting obsessed over your hair growth, remember that your hair’s health is way more important than its length. If your hair is healthy, the inches will come and then you can stunt. For now, be patient and consistent with your hair.
