L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Huile-in-Serum Review

There’s something so luxurious about sleeping in fancy skin care. I have fully romanticized a nighttime skin care ritual in the abstract – and I know I really should be using a serum at night – but the reality is that I can’t stand feeling or smelling anything on my skin as I’m falling asleep. So as much as I would love to slather on rich creams before turning in, I usually just brush my teeth, flip on an episode of The Great British Bake Off, and call it a night. Then I was asked to try L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Huile-in-Serum for work. Now I see why one bottle of this nighttime serum is reportedly sold every minute. The formula sinks in quickly, so I never have to worry that it will rub off on my pillowcase or sheets. It does not have an in-your-face scent, so by the time my head hits the pillow, I forget I’m wearing this smoothing serum at all.

And best of all: It makes my skin brighter and so much softer overnight. It contains antioxidant organic immortelle essential oil (a flower from Corsica), along with hydrating oils (including meadowfoam seed and sunflower seed oils), and moisturizing glycerin. It’s just one of L’Occitane’s formulas centered around immortelles, flowers that are named for a unique ability: The small clustered buds retain their sunny yellow color after they dry out. (I had a bouquet of dried immortelles on my desk for about two years, and they looked as bright and cheery on day 730 as they did on day one.)

I’m still not a serum-before-bed-every-night kind of girl, but on the nights when I do use this, I love the ritual of putting it on before bed and always smile at how pretty the bottle looks on my bathroom counter. I may not have a 10-step nighttime routine down pat (and I still watch TV most nights!), but this is an excellent step toward creating a nighttime ritual that’s as luxurious as it is relaxing.
