Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb Midnight Is Even Sexier Than the Original – Review

When it comes to perfume, I’m somewhat of a loyalist. I find a scent that I like and stick with it until every drop has been spritzed. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely do seasonal switch-ups, but generally, it’s a rotation between no more than three scents. I have my go-to fragrances, and I almost always have an understudy waiting in the wings. But after one sniff of Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Midnight, I knew that it deserved the spotlight.

In the world of perfume, the original Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb is up there as one of the greats. With notes of patchouli, musk, and sweet florals, it’s gained icon status among fragrance enthusiasts. The newest member in the family, Flowerbomb Midnight is like the sexy older sister. While the original is sweet, fresh, and daytime-friendly, Midnight is a bit sweeter and musky. I’ve come to really enjoy this type of fragrance combination. It’s one of those perfumes that smells delicious even though you can’t quite place the notes from a casual sniff.

Those notes are actually blackcurrant and night-blooming jasmine (in an actual flower field, the bloom only reveals its scent after dark) accompanied by musk and pomegranate. You smell the sweeter notes right away, and as the fragrance dries down, the musk side becomes more prominent.

I wore this perfume both day and night and the subtle sweetness lingered for hours. How it fades is really nice. I don’t really like perfumes that almost mark everything that they come in contact with — and while Flowerbomb Midnight lasts, it doesn’t overstep. So my clothes and pillow weren’t laced with the scent after wearing it.

Perfume is very personal and while I occasionally like to indulge in a popular scent, I tend to lean toward more niche fragrances that can’t be identified with one whiff. Flowerbomb Midnight has that can’t-quite-put-your-finger-on-it quality that I love. It combines all the great parts of the original Flowerbomb with just enough newness and mystery so that it feels like it was mixed exclusively for me.
