Turn A Bad Hair Day To Being the Baddest In the Room

By Choya Randolph

Bad hair days are the absolute worst. The worst kind of bad hair day is when you put your hair in a twist out or braid out before you go to bed. You wake up thinking your curls are going to be popping but instead you look like you’ve been electrocuted. Now you’re crying on the bathroom floor knowing you have to be at work soon. It truly is the worst but it happens to the best of us. But the next time you’re on the verge of a bad hair day, try these tips to walk out the door still serving a look.

Headwraps

Sometimes when our hair isn’t behaving the way we want it to, we just need to tuck her away. This would be a perfect time for a protective style but who has time to do knotless braids when we have to be to work in 30 minutes? That’s why it’s good to have your handy dandy headwrap.

If you don’t feel like swooping your edges, you can just take your head scarf and wrap it around your head starting at the front of your head. Make sure the scarf looks neat on your forehead. When wrapping the hair to the back, twist the two ends of the scarf so it’s secure. Take one end and fold it so it can wrap neatly on your head. After wrapping, tuck it away in the back. Do the same to the other end. You should have a headwrap style that brings out your beautiful face and gets you out the house so you can be on time.

Wigs

Ain’t nothing like a wig to save you from a bad hair day. I’m reckless so I will walk outside wearing my wig like a hat. Alladat Got2B glue and flat ironing is a no for me dawg. That’s why I think everyone should invest in a wig that you can throw on and go.

The best wig to do this with is a curly wig with bangs. The bangs will save you from laying down the lace and those voluminous curls will hide the bumpy hair cap you’re probably wearing under the wig. If you have a wig that requires being glued down, your headwrap will come in clutch. Would you rather wait for your glue to dry or wrap a scarf around your head while still showing off your wig’s inches? You gotta do what you gotta do sis.

Weave Ponytail

For those who haven’t jumped on the wig bandwagon, especially since wigs can cost a coin, buy a weave ponytail. They’re super affordable and can be bought at your local beauty supply store. No matter how bad your twist out is, you can always slick your hair in a bun and put a ponytail over it.

If you don’t have a weave ponytail, don’t worry because a DIY ponytail is just as easy as securing your weave ponytail. If you’re not a stranger to protective styles then you may have some kanekalon or Marley hair hidden somewhere. Once you’ve secured your hair in a nice bun, wrap your leftover hair from your last protective style around the bun. What’s great about kanekalon and Marley hair is that it matches our kinky hair texture so no one will know it’s not our actual hair. And they shouldn’t because that’s your business.

We’ve all experienced our hair not looking the way we want it to. That doesn’t mean we have to accept having a bad hair day. This is when we can get creative and maybe even invent a new hairstyle. If all fails, you now have these tips to walk out the door not feeling defeated by your twist out. And even if you’re having a bad hair day, remember that it’s all about confidence. You’re only having a bad hair day if you believe your hair looks bad. Believe in your crown sis.
