Trucker Hero Pulls Over When He Sees ‘Frantic’ Man Running Up Highway After Wreck Flings His Toddler into the Dark

Joe Hylton, has been driving big trucks for two years and by his reckoning this is the seventh time he has come to the rescue at the scene of an accident, and this time, perhaps, it was the most comforting.

Driving for Perdue Farms, he was traveling on Delaware Route 1 at night recently when he came across the scene of a serious accident. Both cars were nearly destroyed and a man was running frantically down the road.

Hylton stopped and walked into the middle of the high-speed traffic in the dark to steer the drivers away from the two wrecked cars. Then one of the drivers started yelling that he couldn’t find his daughter.

As a father of three, Hylton recalled, “I see a frantic father running. He looks in the back of his truck and says’ I can’t find my daughter, I can’t find my daughter. I looked inside and saw an empty car seat in the back of the truck. “

Joe immediately went into “dad” mode and began searching through the swampy area along the road using his flashlight.

Finally he came across a small gray lump. At first he was afraid to look, knowing the kind of injuries the two-year-old might have suffered after being thrown out of the car, but to his amazement the little girl approached him without a single scratch.

The tearful father thanked Joe, who returned to his truck and continued on his way.

However, a battalion commander from the New Jersey Fire Department, who arrived on the scene, was able to locate Joe to recognize him for his heroism.

The Delaware State Police are awarding Joe their Good Samaritan honor, and his employer praised him as well.

“There is so much madness in the world, I don’t believe in getting praised for helping someone,” the ‘super humble’ trucker replied. “That’s what we’re all supposed to do.”

“When I saw the expression on his face, I said, ‘Man, I have to do something.’ Looking at the empty car seat makes your heart drop. “

“As I got closer to her, it was as if the Lord lifted her up. She sat down and crossed her legs in the Indian style and raised her hands for me to pick her up. “

“I grabbed her and called the father, the father came running and we hugged. We did not know each other, I had never met him before in my life. But I’ll tell you that we met at that time. “

“Everyone is so angry and upset that it seems like the world is at a level ten right now. A little good will go a long way. It gives me hope that things are improving, that things are changing. “

“Most of the time it pays to be calm in those situations. That is the most useful. Even if you don’t know first aid, if you can identify where people are and how to help them, it will save a life. “
