Tracee Ellis Ross is known for her voluminous signature curls, but sometimes she likes to change it up a bit. Every now and then, the actor and Pattern Beauty founder takes to Instagram to show fans how she styles her hair, and this time she’s opted for some braids. Though we’ve seen braids on Ross before, these ones have a certain twist to them (no pun intended, of course).
On July 7, Ross posted a video to her Instagram grid in which she’s showing some off braids that are tightly twisted to the sides of her head. Ross’s braids definitely gave us all the Star Wars Princess Leia vibes, and, yes, she thought so, too.
In the video, she’s casually sitting on a couch and gushes, “Oh my God I’m so in love with this hair I can’t deal. Wait, can you guys see it? Can you see it? Look at it. Tinisha just rocked this out. It’s like an advanced Princess Leia.” I don’t wanna take it off but I gotta go work out.”
As she moves the camera around to hit all those angles, she proceeds to describe the products behind the look. On the front of her hair, her stylist went in with Pattern Beauty’s Styling Cream. To hold the braids, her stylist used Pattern Beauty’s Strong Hold Gel and also “added a little hair to hold the shape [of the braids].”
The hairstylist credited for Ross’s Princess Leia braids is Tinisha Meeks, otherwise known as @sparkyourhair on Instagram. Meeks has also styled the locks of other celebrities such as Yara Shahidi (who stars in Black-ish alongside Ross) and Chloe and Halle Bailey, the singers of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle.
Fans are loving her “advanced Princess Leia braids,” but as stated by Ross, it looks like they’re not here to stay. Hopefully, we won’t have to travel to another galaxy to see these braids again.
