A man turns nature into art with his intricate leaf cutouts showing everything from ballerinas to flamingos to Harry Potter.
Kanat Nurtazin, 29, uses a sharp razor to cut his drawings into sheets, and his unique art has even caught the attention of Disney.
He started making leaf clippings in 2013 as a hobby, and now he estimates that he has created around 500 foliage clippings.
Kanat from Kazakhstan was looking for a creative outlet at the time and says, “I started experimenting with different things: writing poems, creating music, I stopped drawing.”
He had seen paper cutouts before, but Kanat saw all the fallen leaves on the ground, he decided to use them instead of paper.
His leaf art is part of a project he calls his ‘100 Drawing Methods’, which he experiments with different techniques.
It currently has nearly 70 methods, including some that use fluorescent tape or coffee packets.
Kanat poses each cutout in front of the sky, buildings, flowers or anything else that fits the design of the sheet and takes a photo of it.
When he started posting their work on Instagram, where they gained popularity, even Nickelodeon and Disney contacted him to help create content for them.
However, Kanat said he still makes the art primarily as a hobby, but sometimes auctioning off some of his favorite works, sending the proceeds to charities he thinks are in need.
However, in general, his leaf art is a way for Kanat to express himself. He said: “For me, art is something to move you to another place, to be alone with your feelings and thoughts.
“It’s just a place where I can be myself and share my ideas. Some of my works touch on social problems and I try to express myself with the help of art ”.
Let’s take a look at some of Kanat’s work.
