The Best Eyebrow Grooming Wax for Full, Fluffy Brows

When you want your eyebrows to have that gravity-defying fluffy look, sometimes a standard brow gel just isn’t enough. That’s why, it seems, makeup brands are releasing eyebrow waxes left and right. We’re not talking about the kind of wax used for hair removal; we’re talking about a whole new category of eyebrow grooming products inspired by the soap brow trick

Eyebrow wax ingredients can differ significantly from product to product, but the one thing they all have in common is that they’re much stronger than the average eyebrow gel. That’s because, according to cosmetic chemist Ginger King, some of these products are actually soap-based and therefore aren’t water-soluble (so they don’t break down when you sweat). Other products, as cosmetic chemist Ron Robinson explains, contain “waxes [that] might form a stronger hold than the film formers used in gels.”

The application process is ultimately similar to what you’d do with a regular eyebrow gel, however, you should use a little more caution and preparation. “My tip is to first brush and set the brows up before applying the wax; this helps you see the spaces where you need to fill them up if necessary,” makeup artist Lennie Billy advises. “Before the wax gets hard, make sure to shape them the way you like them to be.” Because once an eyebrow wax hardens, your brow hairs are sure to stay in place for hours on end.
