Simone Biles Returns From the Tokyo Olympics With Curly Box Braids — See Photo

After initially withdrawing from Olympic competitions due to mental health issues on July 28, gymnast Simone Biles pulled through to compete on the balance beams a few days later on August 3 and won a bronze medal. That day, she made history by tying the record for the most Olympic medals won by a U.S. gymnast. Now, the Olympian is back home and relaxing poolside with her family and a fresh set of curly box braids

On August 8, Biles shared a few photos of her new braided hairstyle with her 6 million and counting followers. She poses in a tie-dye bikini with her tongue poking out from her smile and her braids parted simply down the middle. These box braids are definitely on the longer side with the curled tips hitting below her waist, and we’re obsessed with every inch of them.

The medium-sized braids start to get smaller about halfway down the hair before transitioning into the curled ends. These wavy ends add such a bohemian vibe to this convenient protective style. Though she might play around with brown and blonde hair colors sometimes, the 24-year-old kept it simple with all-black braids this time around.

It’s actually not her first time wearing curly braids like these. In December 2020, she shared a selfie of her black-and-caramel brown box braids with similar wavy tips that looked gorgeous. Though she often shows off her straightened hair on Instagram, she also switches it up pretty frequently with other braided styles, including cornrows with honey-blonde highlights and medium-sized black box braids underneath a denim Chanel bucket hat.

After the Tokyo Olympics, we love to see Biles relaxing and spending time with her loving family, supportive boyfriend, and two French bulldogs. We hope she gets to wind down and engage in whatever self-care she needs.
