ORS™ Haircare, the respected, Chicago-based multicultural haircare company, has announced the first recipients of its ORS™Cares Relief Fund, part of an initiative established to aid licensed hair professionals with grants which can be used for any purpose. ORS™Cares was conceived in June of this year with a $100,000 starting investment, to provide charitable product donations and monetary contributions to select black businesses and community organizations.
ORS™Cares is a significant step, among others, that ORS™Haircare has taken this year to show its support to black entrepreneurs and industry practitioners alike. The company-wide commitment is a multi-tiered support initiative conceived to benefit black hairstylists and salon owners nationwide who’ve suffered losses owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the social uprisings permeating the nation. Applications for the $1,500 relief grants for 33 chosen recipients, opened beginning on Juneteenth, in the hope of helping to ease the stress on those who’ve been unable to work owing to the pandemic, or whose business suffered any impacts from the year’s season of unrest. This is Phase one of giving for the relief fund.
A committee of principals representing the ethnic haircare industry, ORS™ Haircare and Chicago’s local business community were convened to review the applications, and determine the recipients of the support—a responsibility they were humbled to assume. “Through our ORS™Cares Relief Fund, ORS™Haircare is proud to step up as a company to provide these grants to licensed, salon-based hairstylists across the United States. We honor, respect and uplift the legacy of black hairstylists and salon professionals, and we’ve done so for more than two decades now,” the company said in an official statement.

“Even so, this is only a first step. The first duty of any business, is to stay in business, and giving back is simply reflective of the fabric of who ORS™ Haircare is as a brand, and as an industry support and ally.”
In its headquarters city, ORS™Cares also made direct contributions as part of the initiative to impactful local community organizations including My Block, My Hood, My City, which has raised and provides funds for small black businesses in disadvantaged neighborhoods throughout Chicago which were affected by the summer uprisings, and beyond.
