Nintendo is Partnering With a Nonprofit to Bring Gaming Consoles to Hospitalized Kids

Starlight Nintendo Switch Gaming stations have made their way to hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country.

Each station comes preloaded with over 25 sets of Super mario party to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The station is specially designed and manufactured by Nintendo for use in a hospital environment.

The device can be completely cleaned with disinfectant to meet strict hospital safety infection protocols and includes a mounted playback monitor that can roll anywhere in the hospital, so kids can enjoy some of their favorite video games from Nintendo from the comfort of your own hospital beds or in a game room with a group of other children.

Games bring happiness to children trapped in the hospital by providing much-needed entertainment and distraction from stressful situations. According to Starlight Children’s FoundationIt can even provide emotional support, reducing anxiety and improving mood.

Doctors, nurses, physicians and child life specialists can use a single Starlight Gaming station in a variety of settings, from entertaining children during a relative’s visit to the ER, to distracting children during medical treatment that would otherwise be painful, even giving children something fun to do during long periods of isolation or with a group of other children, or helping them relax and feel comfortable when communicating with caregivers about their diagnosis.

In 28 years, Starlight’s partnership with Nintendo of America has delivered gaming stations to more than 800 hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country, bringing smiles to approximately 11.6 million seriously ill children.
