These poignant images show a man taking his dying dog to his favorite mountain on one last hike: in a wheelbarrow.

Ten-year-old Monty enjoyed exploring hills and walks throughout Wales with his owner, Carlos Fresco.

The couple have visited the Brecon Beacons many times over the years and have even reached the top of the three peaks.

But realizing that the labradoodle was not very well, Carlos decided to return to the beacons, staying with friends in Brecon, so they could share one last trip together.

Carlos and Monty traveled to the top of Pen y Fan, where many walkers stopped to greet and meet Monty, who was helped up to the top with the help of a wheelbarrow.

Monty passed away on June 21 after an 18-month battle with leukemia.

Carlos said: “I knew that Monty was dying because his cancer had returned. He was diagnosed 18 months ago and responded very well to chemotherapy.

“But, unfortunately, his leukemia came back eight weeks ago and it went down very quickly. He loved walks in the hills and we improvised and took him for a walk around his wonderful lighthouses. Although he was weak, he enjoyed all the fuss and attention received by so many supporters.

“In fact, complete strangers asked if they could share in Monty’s drive on his last trip, and many complete strangers shed a tear because we all love our little four-legged friends so much.

“That little boy touched so many lives. He made everyone he came into contact with smile and take a moment to reflect on how life is not so bad sometimes.

“Our little companions never judge, they are always there waiting for you and offer you comfort when things have not gone well.
