Lottie Cunningham: Dedicated to Indigenous Rights

December 30, 2020– “Against all odds, human rights defender Lottie Cunningham has been at the forefront of the battle for indigenous rights in Nicaragua for the past 20 years. She was one of four activists who this year received the Right Livelihood Award, the Nobel alternative of peace., for their decades of work. More than 400,000 indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples live along the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua. For years, their livelihoods have been threatened by the massive exploitation of their lands through from mining, logging and intensive agriculture.
