Janelle Monáe Wears Curly Blonde Pixie Cut at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards — See Photos

At March 28’s NAACP Image Awards, Janelle Monáe made a stunning appearance complete with gold statement jewelry and a floor-length black and white Christian Siriano gown. It is not the first and certainly won’t be the last time they drop jaws with a red carpet look — but this time specifically, we can’t take our eyes off their pretty new blonde hair color.

Monáe has been wearing their signature short hair in copper red and strawberry blonde hues for the past few months, but this particular look shows it in an even lighter shade of blonde. “Tonight we glisten,” Monáe captioned one of two posts about the event, revealing the new hair color. For the night, they paired their structured curls (styled by the incredible Nikki Nelms for the awards ceremony) with a timeless makeup look (by equally incredible makeup artist Emily Cheng) including glowing skin, strong eyebrows, graphic black cat eyes, and a true red lipstick. From afar, it appears they’re also wearing one of spring’s biggest nail trends: negative space, punctuated with what appear to be rounded, metallic-gold French tips. In short: it’s a look

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve seen Monáe with blonde hair; just search for their iconic 2018 Grammy Awards red carpet look with that two-toned black and platinum-blonde for a quick reference. Monáe has never been afraid to experiment with their look, so we’re willing to bet (and low-key hoping) that it won’t be the last time, either. No matter the hair color they’re wearing, though, we know it’s always going to look spectacular… and that’s on being Janelle fucking Monàe.
