I Wear Sigma Beauty’s Liquid Lipstick in Venom to All My Zoom Meetings

Lipstick used to be what you would wear when you were going out out, but the game has changed. Now, with COVID-19 having shut down a lot of the spaces we used to occupy for leisure — and the fact that in most areas, wearing masks is required — the only place you can really show off a lippie is in the comfort of your own home, on a Zoom meeting.

Fortunately for me, my day is filled with Zoom meetings and thus, opportunities to wear lipstick. At a time when loungewear has become workwear, a little lipstick can go a long way in making me feel more put together, more like my normal self. So when I was asked to try Sigma Beauty’s liquid lipstick in Venom, I jumped at the opportunity.

Venom is a very classic red lipstick. It’s not too orange; instead it has a nice blue undertone that I tend to seek out when I’m looking for hues in this color family. I am quite particular about the red lipsticks I wear — I prefer a liquid formula, and I don’t want to wear one that I will constantly have to touch up, whether it’s to fully reapply it because the color is fading or even just to carefully wipe away any smudges around the perimeter of my lips.

I had to do neither with this lipstick. It goes on with a velvety consistency that is the opposite of drying. That’s because it’s not a matte matte; it’s got more of a satiny finish. I actually put this on without applying moisturizer first (blasphemous, I know), but my lips didn’t look or feel dry. It was quite a comfortable formula. It’s also really saturated. I’m talking single-swipe-level color payoff.

But what was most impressive to me was its staying power. When it did start to fade (after I started eating), it did so gracefully, without leaving behind those crumbly bits you can sometimes get when your liquid lipstick stays on for too long.

At $20 it’s not the least expensive lippie around, but the quality stands up to the price. Treat yourself to a little something nice, why don’t you?
