I Tried Sol de Janeiro’s New Triple Brazilian Butter Hair Repair Treatment | Review

A year ago, Sol de Janeiro dove into the hair-care market with its Brazilian Joia Strengthening + Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner, leaving fans of the brand wondering when it would release a third product to make their wash days complete. Almost a year later, the brand is here to deliver with the newest addition to its hair-care range, the Triple Brazilian Butter Hair Repair Treatment.

The treatment includes a mix of three highly-moisturizing butters — cupuaçu, tucumã, and murumuru. “The essential fatty acids in all three of these butters have extremely low molecular weight, so they deliver significant deep-conditioning benefits and nutrition without weighing down hair fibers,” says Haley Menkins, director of the brand’s product innovation and marketing division.

Okay, we know that sounds super sciencey and clinical. To really illustrate how the butters work together, Mona Gohara, a Connecticut-based board-certified dermatologist explains the wonders that this triumvirate can do for your hair. “Just like butter softens bread, in the right combo it can soften hair,” she says. “Depositing hydrating fats can make your toast taste — and your hair look — good.”

The treatment also contains Sol de Janeiro’s signature Sol Sea Technology, plant-based keratin that is supposed to make your hair smoother. It also has the signature scent of the brand’s Best of Beauty-winning Bum Bum Cream, which, as someone who likes her hair to smell good, I appreciated.

I whipped out the 240-milliliter jar the kind folks at Sol de Janeiro messengered me once it was time for wash day. After shampooing and conditioning with what I already had in my shower, I grabbed the tub of this stuff and went to work. The consistency is quite thick and sturdy. Possibly a little bit hard — if you turn the jar over, the product doesn’t slip out. My hair was already relatively detangled before application, but when I put this in it helped get out the last few remaining snarls. I left it on my hair for about 20 minutes. When I washed it out, my hair felt stronger, and like it was smoothed down. My 3C/4A hair is naturally going to be a bit frizzy, but I did notice that this mask kind of depleted that frizz.
