You don’t hear about too many “no-makeup makeup” looks at major award shows, when celebrities typically go all out on the glam for their red-carpet and on-stage appearances. But for the host of the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, Nick Jonas, his look is all about a low-key yet enviable glow — and we spoke to his go-to groomer, Marissa Machado, about how she achieved it (and maintained it) for this star-studded gig.
“As the host of the BBMAs, I wanted Nicks’s face to stay as fresh as possible throughout a long day and night,” Machado tells Allure, and that means starting out with Research Créme Concentrate, Tom Ford’s incredibly luxurious moisturizer. “This product hydrates and firms the skin for a flawless application.”
Next up is the product Machado tells Allure is Nick’s favorite Tom Ford product. “I lightly dabbed the Anti-Fatigue Eye Treatment around his eyes. This product is an instant eye-opener,” she says, likely due to the formula’s caffeine and cooling applicator.
As for makeup, Machado keeps it simple, using Tom Ford Concealer “to take down any discoloration and or redness in the skin.” And that sculpted radiance? Credit goes to the brand’s Soleil Glow Bronzer “to enhance his bone structure.”
Needless to say, with hosting duties, a few touchups are a must, but Machado keeps it simple. “I always prefer the skin to be natural and not overdone, so I try to keep my touchups to only when absolutely necessary,” she says. She relies on Tom Ford Translucent Finishing Powder to cut down any on-camera shine, “To keep Nick’s lips hydrated, we used the Hydrating Lip Balm.”
Ultimately, Machado says, her goal is to achieve a clean, masculine look for Nick. “I want him to look and feel his best,” she tells Allure. “My game plan is always to do only what’s necessary for a flawless camera appearance.” Mission fully accomplished.
