The “grandfather” of homeless animals has been awarded for his volunteer efforts in caring for stray dogs. He graduated from a veterinary medicine program in his seventies and now travels hundreds of miles a week to care for them.

Did you know news

Retiring from his career as a biology teacher after serving his community for 42 years, Fevzi Uyar from Turkey has been dedicating his time to animals in need for the past five years.

He has cared for many stray dogs, including building more than 80 plywood animal shelters to house them during the winter months. To each one, add rugs, rugs, and blankets for insulation and comfort.

Uyar also travels more than 90 miles every other day to provide food and water for homeless dogs. With the help of other animal lovers, he supplies eight to ten tons of dog food and food to the stray dogs each month. Up to 1,000 dogs now recognize your truck and follow it along the way to the food stops you have established.

Often when encountering animals in need of medical attention, Uyar incurred several thousand dollars in debt to the local vet. To continue providing care, she enrolled in a veterinary medicine program despite being past retirement age. Recently graduated, the 71-year-old now vaccinates, treats and bandages any wounds.

For his efforts to give stray animals a better life, Uyar has been awarded the first Gladiator Award from the Babbitt Family Foundation. They say, “We hope that Mr. Uyar’s story will inspire you to discover how ‘one person can contribute to changing the world and benefit all of humanity.’
