Google Shopping Announces Virtual Try-On for Eye Shadow and Lipstick with YouCam and ModiFace

As 2020 is coming to an end, it’s apparent that this year has taught us a lot. We learned to cut our own hair, that we still need to wear SPF indoors, and how to be our own makeup artists. While 2021 is already looking brighter (thanks to COVID-19 vaccine approval), we still may be hesitant to leave our houses unless it’s for essential purposes. And as much as we love beauty products, an Ulta Beauty or Sephora run is not considered essential. Shopping for makeup online can be a tough task; there’s really no knowing how an eye shadow’s pigment will appear on your skin tone or how a vibrant red lipstick will look on your particular mouth. That’s why Google has partnered with ModiFace and Perfect Corp.

ModiFace, founded by L’Oréal, and Perfect Corp., which owns YouCam, are both realistic makeup try-on applications in which you can play around with some of your favorite brands’ products before purchasing them. The collaboration with Google comes to consumers with the goal of helping them better visualize how thousands of products will look on them before committing to “add to cart.”

This innovative process starts today, December 17, and is fairly easy to operate. Using the Google app, when you search for a specific lipstick or eye shadow, you will be able to see what it looks like on a range of skin tones, compare shades and textures, and virtually try on the products to help you find the perfect match. Brands included in this feature are L’Oréal Paris, MAC, Black Opal, Charlotte Tilbury, and more.

This is a game-changer for shoppers because, according to a press release sent to Allure from Google, 76 percent of people are online shopping for the holidays this year. So if you think your BFF deserves a new eye shadow for Christmas and you want to try it out before you buy it, this is for you.

Be sure to download the Google app and search for your favorite product to use the new try-on feature.
