Fragrance Discovery Sets Let You Test Perfume Before Buying

No matter how long you stare at a bottle of perfume on your screen, you won’t be able to smell it. Until you can experience it IRL — spritz it, sniff it, wear it — there is no way of knowing whether it’s for you. So fragrance houses are rethinking the art of browsing and sending “discovery sets” directly to your door. Each is filled with a collection of sample-size scents — usually about five —that are more substantial than typical single-spray testers. (The options listed below ring up between $68 and $120.) Our favorite fragrance sets come in beautiful, petite bottles with more than enough inside (upwards of 7 ml per bottle) for you to decide if their full-size counterparts should get a seat at your vanity.
