It’s safe to say that Ariana Grande‘s hairstyle of choice is always a long, sleek ponytail, but recently, it looks like she and her hairstylist Josh Liu spiced up her ‘do by taking some direction from TikTok trends. On Wednesday, July 21, the singer posted a monochromatic portrait on Instagram in which her hair is styled in the beloved TikTok-inspired ’90s baby braids.
Although we think that the tendril braids are a perfect everyday look for Ari, it seems like it was only a one-time look for her live performance of the song, “Off The Table” with The Weeknd. Scrolling through “HairTok” will show you tons of videos where users are demonstrating this ’90s-esque hair trend, many of which date back to 2020. In fact, TikTok user and mobile hairstylist Dré Malczewska shows her followers how to make tendril braids from start to finish.
While the TikTok community is absolutely smitten with the nostalgic hairstyle, it seems like other celebrities and their hairstylists are embracing it as well. Celebrity hairstylist Laura Polko has tried these braids on a few members of her clientele, such as singer-songwriter Charlotte Lawrence and, more recently, TikTok star Dixie D’Amelio.
To quote Ari’s stylist Mimi Cuttrell — who styled her for the video — she looked like a “fairy princess,” and not just thanks to the tendril braids. The floral dress, soft glam, and beaded necklace were the perfect combo to make Grande look like she was born to wander the floral haven in her video. To watch the full performance of “Off The Table,” and to admire her cute braided tendrils (duh!), watch the video above.
