Americans Say They’re Saving Up to Make the Holidays Extra Special This Year

Six in 10 Americans expect to receive more “creative” gifts than ever from loved ones this holiday season, according to a new survey.

And it may be in the hopes of making this a season to remember, as nearly three in four Americans say they plan to make this Christmas season a memorable one.

The survey of 2,000 Americans found that to achieve this, one in five started their Christmas shopping in September.

The survey, conducted by OnePoll on behalf of BJ Wholesale Club, took a look at how Americans are doing their Christmas shopping during this unusual year.

Based on the results, all but five percent of those surveyed plan to start their Christmas shopping before December.

Since there will be a greater emphasis on online shopping this year than in the past, 71% said they plan to spend a good amount of time researching the best deals and discounts before buying anything.

And for those who will shop at the store, 70% of respondents said they plan to do their Christmas shopping at large, well-rounded stores to reduce the amount of travel they take.

While 56% of respondents said they will miss the “scavenger hunt” aspect of the holiday shopping store this year, most feel they will end up being more creative and thoughtful when gift-giving online shopping.

Most respondents feel confident that they will find what they need by browsing the web, but one in three (34%) still say they plan to buy at least one holiday item or gift from the store alone. Most agree that they will plan to use digital services to facilitate that process.

Buying gifts for more loved ones

More than four in ten respondents (42%) also say they will buy gifts for people they have never shopped for before.

In fact, the average American surveyed will receive gifts for nine people this holiday season, and 40% have 11 or more people on their shopping list.

The average American who took the survey said they plan to spend $ 370 on Christmas gifts for loved ones this year, with nearly half (45%) saying they plan to spend more than $ 400, and 16% plan to spend more than $ 700 .
