A War Orphan Who Became a Ballerina
November 21, 2020– Michaela DePrince is “the dancer who flies”. DePrince, who was orphaned at age three in war-torn Sierra Leone, was malnourished and ill when Elaine and Charles DePrince of New Jersey adopted her and her “carpet companion” from the orphanage. Inspired by a magazine photograph of a ballerina, DePrince trained as a ballet dancer and now works at the Dance Theater in Harlem. “I think no matter where you come from and what you’ve been through, having a loving and supportive family is all you need to achieve your goals.” (368 reads)
