3 in 4 Kids are Inspired by Their Parents’ Fashion Sense When They Were Teens: It’s Actually ‘Cool’


Nearly six in 10 American children admit to stealing one of their parents’ old outfits to wear to school, according to a new survey.

A survey of 1,000 children ages 5 to 18, and their parents, reveals that nostalgia for fashion from their parents ‘time is strong, with three out of four children saying they think their parents’ sense of style when they were teenagers was really “cool”. “

Kids don’t just crave styles from the past, they implement them into their own wardrobes, and 63% of kids say they love retro fashions and find inspiration from the past for their everyday school outfits.

And 67% said they would wear “mom jeans” instead of skinny jeans any day.

Parents have also noticed this “retro and reinvented” phenomenon. Four out of five parents surveyed say they often see their children wearing an outfit similar to what they would have worn when they were in school.

This back-to-school season, retro styles, DIY self-expression, and customization are emerging as key trends, with 99% of parents saying it’s at least somewhat important to involve their kids in purchasing decisions when it comes to of shopping back to school. .

More than half (51%) also believe that their children’s generation has a better sense of fashion than theirs.

However, the survey, conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Zulily, found that it’s not just retro styles that are all the rage this back-to-school season.

A second phenomenon revealed by the survey shows that children see style as a way of expressing their confidence.

Ninety percent think that being able to express their personal style helps them feel more productive in school, and almost half of children (48%) think that a trendy or trendy outfit is essential to their success in school.

More importantly, wearing new clothes brings joy to the majority of children (79%) and helps 57% to feel more secure.

In addition, ninety percent of the children said that it is important for them to define their unique personal style to differentiate them from their peers.

Another nine out of ten feel that the way they dress is an expression of their personal brand, sparking the “glue guns and glitter bombs” trend toward personalization and personalization.

Seventy percent (70%) of children say they add personal touches to clothing to make it feel more distinctively special.

And the outfits make an impression; 41% of children surveyed said they are likely to notice other children’s clothing at school.
